Understanding our building process Dunedin clients follow from day one gives you confidence before a single nail is driven.
At Precision Builders, we believe a transparent, well-communicated process is just as important as the build itself.
Whether you are planning a new home, renovation, extension, or kitchen upgrade in Dunedin or across Otago, our step-by-step process keeps you informed, in control, and free from unwanted surprises.
Our building process has been refined across 150+ completed projects in Dunedin and Otago. Every project regardless of size follows the same structured pathway designed to protect your budget, timeline, and peace of mind.
Below is the Precision Pathway, our proven 5-step building process Dunedin homeowners have trusted.
Every building process in Dunedin starts
with a free, no-obligation consultation.
We visit your site, listen to your vision,
and assess what is structurally possible
within your budget.
We discuss your timeline, preferences,
and any consent requirements that may
apply under the Building Act 2004.
→ Outcome: Clear scope of work and
realistic budget range confirmed.
Once we understand your project we produce
a detailed fixed-price quote, no hidden
costs, no vague estimates.
Our pricing is transparent from the start.
We outline every line item so you know
exactly what is included before signing
anything.
Where building consent is required we
coordinate with Dunedin City Council (DCC)
on your behalf.
→ Outcome: Signed fixed-price contract
and consent application lodged.
Before any physical work begins our LBP
licensed team completes all pre-build
planning. This includes ordering materials,
confirming subcontractors, and finalising
the build schedule.
If building consent is required, we manage
the DCC application process for you —
reducing delays and paperwork stress.
→ Outcome: Consent approved, materials
ordered, build schedule confirmed.
This is where your project comes to life.
Our experienced LBP licensed builders
manage every aspect of the construction
phase, from foundations and framing
through to finishing and fit-out.
We provide regular progress updates
throughout the build so you always know
where things stand.
→ Outcome: Build completed to spec,
on time, and within agreed budget.
Before handover we conduct a full quality
inspection to ensure everything meets
New Zealand building code standards and
our own high internal standards.
We walk you through the completed project,
answer any questions, and ensure you are
completely satisfied before we consider
the job done.
→ Outcome: Code Compliance Certificate
obtained and project handed over.
Explore our recent projects to see real renovation results, or learn more about our building process to understand how we deliver high-quality workmanship across Dunedin. Every project regardless of budget follows the same 5-step Precision Pathway.
Not every project requires building consent but knowing the rules protects you from costly mistakes.
Under the Building Act 2004, Schedule 1 exemptions allow certain minor work to proceed without consent. However, most structural work, new builds, extensions, and significant renovations in Dunedin require a consent application through Dunedin City Council (DCC).
As LBP licensed builders we manage this process on your behalf; submitting plans, responding to RFIs, and collecting your Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) at completion.
We also ensure all work meets current H1 energy efficiency requirements under the New Zealand Building Code.
